Re: DeKalb County Economic Development Needs Your Ideas
On November 17, 2015 the process of creating a vision for DeKalb County economic development future was launched. This visioning process is being co-sponsored by DeKalb County Government, the DeKalb County Economic Development Corporation, the DeKalb County Community Foundation, Northern Illinois University (NIU), and the DeKalb County Farm Bureau. Two 90 minute summits were held in DeKalb. An estimated 100 people took part in these summits.
As the next step, NIU’s Center for Governmental Studies (CGS) has been asked to conduct community listening sessions with residents, business leaders, employees, students, and elected and appointed officials to gain a better understanding of the assets and opportunities that exist throughout DeKalb County. The Villages of Shabbona and Waterman have chosen to have a public forum open to all residents and businesses in the two communities. In addition, there is a survey where individuals can share further input:
The Villages will be hosting a public forum on Wednesday May 4, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at the Indian Oaks Country Club. The interactive session will not last later than 7:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided. Please rsvp to or (815) 827-3309. If you cannot attend please take time to fill out the survey listed above.
Information obtained will be used to prepare a vision document for DeKalb County’s economic development future. In addition, a summary of the main assets and opportunities identified by each community will be provided back to the communities to help guide local planning efforts. In May, a summit will also be held open to all residents and business in DeKalb County to share the results of the community input sessions, the survey, and ultimately the visioning process as a whole. More information will be provided closer to the event.
We hope you can come and share your ideas about how Shabbona and Waterman can grow and flourish as an important asset in DeKalb County. Please take time to review the information we have enclosed.  If you need more information on the process, please contact Mellissa Henriksen at  or 815-753-0323.
